Nature Camp Counselor

Gladwyne- 1950 Spring Mill Road, Gladwyne Pa 19035- Servicing campers ages 5-13

Mckaig- 889 Croton Road. Wayne, Pa- Servicing campers 5-10

 

Camp Counselor Position ($19/hr 40hrs a Week):

Camp Counselors support the Lead Counselors in delivering outdoor, environmental education activities and experiences. You’ll work together with your co-counselor to manage groups of 12-14 children, mentor teen volunteers, and ensure the safety and engagement of all campers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Co-lead outdoor education activities and assist with independent facilitation of activities

  • Support co-counselors with behavioral and group management

  • Mentor teen volunteers

  • Assist with daily facility upkeep, animal care, and after-care activities

  • Attend off site field trips as needed to support the campers

Camp Counselor Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of background checks (criminal, FBI fingerprint, and child abuse history clearance)

  • Interest in Environmental Education, Biology, Ecology, or related fields

  • Some experience in child education or management (formal or informal) encouraged

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to work early mornings, late afternoons, and occasional overnights

  • Passion for Riverbend’s mission

 

Floater/Behavioral Support Counselor Position ($19/hr 25 hrs a Week):

As a Floater/Behavior Support Counselor, your main responsibility will be assisting counselors with managing camper behaviors. You’ll perform daily check-ins with counselors to discuss any behavior concerns and provide strategies for improvement. You’ll also be prepared to jump in and help with planning and leading activities, filling in for absent counselors, assisting with carline, and supporting the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director with daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Open the camp building and host Before Care 

  • Conduct daily check-ins with counselors to assess and support camper behavior management

  • Assist in implementing behavior management strategies and provide guidance to counselors

  • Fill in for absent counselors as needed to ensure continuity of care

  • Plan and lead outdoor activities and projects for campers

  • Help with carline duties, ensuring campers arrive and depart safely

  • Support the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director with daily tasks and logistics

  • Assist with facility upkeep, animal care, and after-care activities as needed

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of background checks (criminal, FBI fingerprint, and child abuse history clearance)

  • Strong interest in behavior management, child development, or related fields

  • Experience working with children in educational or camp settings is encouraged

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team

  • Ability to stay active and work outdoors in warm weather

  • Passionate about Riverbend’s mission and fostering positive relationships with kids

 

Camp Coordinator $22/hr ( McKaig 40 hrs a Week)
 

Responsibilities:

  • Support management and facilitation of programming
  • Communicate with parents regarding camp activities
  • Mentor assistant counselors
  • Lead camp groups during activities
  • Ensure camper safety throughout the program
  • Troubleshoot logistics to maintain smooth operations 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Environmental Education, Biology, Ecology or other related field

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in teaching, professional educational program development and management

  • 2 years of professional camp experience preferred.

  • 1-2 years of leadership or management experience preferred.

  • Experience teaching using informal education strategies like inquiry based, place based, project based, and experiential learning. 

  • Experience working with audiences from various age groups, backgrounds, and cultures.

  • Exceptional communication skills and relationship building skills.

  • Creative and innovative thinker

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Google platforms and other educational technology.

  • Solutions oriented problem solver.  Strong decision-making skills and ability to work independently.

  • Passionate about Riverbend’s mission
