Name: Still working on it… but “Twiggy” works just fine
Species: Vietnamese Walking Stick (Medauroidea extradentata)
Hired: Spring 2024 (branching out to Riverbend!)
About Me:
Hello, I’m a master of disguise—literally. I look like a stick, move like a leaf, and blend into my surroundings better than anyone else on the team. I hail from the tropical forests of Vietnam, but I’ve adapted nicely to life at Riverbend, munching leaves and impressing visitors with my subtle leaf-dancing moves.
Fun (and Slightly Stick-y) Facts:
-
I can regrow lost legs when I’m a baby, but as an adult, what’s gone is gone. Makes me appreciate my limbs even more!
-
Almost all of us are female, and we don’t need a male to lay eggs—independent doesn’t even begin to cover it.
-
When the wind blows, I “dance” to look like a leaf blowing in the breeze. Nature’s stealth mode: activated.
-
Even my eggs are disguised—they look just like seeds. No one suspects a thing.
-
I’m a distant cousin to mantises and termites, but let’s be real: I’m the chic, stick-smooth version of the family.
Favorite Snack:
Leaves, leaves, and more leaves. Bonus points if they rustle nicely.
