The Pond Frogs

Preserve Resident

Our preserve ponds host several iconic frog species, visible in different life stages throughout the year. Our most common species include:

  • The Green Frog (Lithobates clamitans) - recognizable by their vibrant green and brown color. They are often confused with the American Bullfrog, which can also be found in our ponds
  • The American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) - while difficult to distinguish from our Green Frogs, if you can spot both of them at the same time, you may notice that one is larger than the other; thats the Bullfrog! Bullfrogs grow to be several times larger than Green Frogs, which allows them to eat a more diverse diet. Bullfrogs have been known to eat small snakes, lizards, birds, and rodents!
