Suzanne Safran

Director of Education

Suzanne is an innovative changemaker with a passion for connecting people to the natural resources that sustain them. With a diverse background spanning science, education, and the arts, she is a creative, people-centered leader who excels at developing innovative solutions that empower both her team and the students they serve.

She has spearheaded the creation of engaging, standards-aligned educational experiences rooted in sound science and fun (a Riverbend core value)! Her initiatives include launching the Budding Naturalists caregiver-and-me program, developing a grant-funded curriculum that helps students understand where their water comes from, and forming a new partnership with the National Geographic Society that expanded Riverbend’s reach into high school classrooms.

An avid outdoor enthusiast and self-proclaimed “bird nerd,” Suzanne holds a BS in  Biology from James Madison University, an MS in Public Policy from Georgia Tech and is pursuing an M.Ed. in Environmental Education at Slippery Rock University focused on equitable access to nature education.
