Through Riverbend’s exciting programs, Cub Scouts not only learn about the wonders of nature, but also about themselves. Team-building exercises, games, hands-on field studies and nature crafts are a few of the fun ways we help Scouts reach their badge work goals.

  • Tiger Cubs
Rolling over logs and examining pond life will peak your Tiger Cubs’ interest in the natural world. A Riverbend visit fulfills the “Let’s Go Outdoors” portion of the Tiger Badge requirements.
  • Wolf Cubs
Future environmental protection starts with positive actions today. Riverbend’s “Your Living World” program will help Wolf Cubs learn about important concepts such as pollution, conservation and recycling.
  • Bear Cubs
Through our fun-filled “Sharing your World with Wildlife,” your scouts will investigate the habitats of local wildlife, build recycled bird feeder and meet live animals up close.
  • Just for Webelos!
If your scouts don’t yet know a copperhead from a corn snake or an oak tree from an elm, Riverbend can help! We have programs designed especially to help Webelos earn their Naturalist or Forester badge
  • Naturalist
This badge focuses on the balance of nature within an ecosystem through an adventurous blend of activities. Your scout will create a nature journal, investigate the antics of birds and insects and learn how to identify poisonous plants and venomous reptiles.
  • Forester
At the end of this program, your scouts will see the forest through the trees! Tree-ring reading, bark rubbings and species identification are a few of the activities that will help Webelos gain an understanding of the vast importance of our forests.
  • Geologist
Learning about geology is a great way for scouts to connect with the natural world.  Igneous rocks, erosion, fossils and more will be covered in this fun and  hands-on badge program.
  • Night Hike and Campfire Social
Bring your pack for some after-hours fun! Riverbend staff will lead your scouts in a safe and educational night hike that may include wildlife observation and sensory experiences. Afterward, you can lead your group in skits, storytelling and songs while toasting marshmallows over the fire.
  • Big Red Barn Overnight
Come spend the night in our fully refurbished 1923 Snider Barn! Your pack can enjoy roasting marshmallows outside around a campfire, and can opt to participate in a night hike or badge work. For the especially adventurous, we also offer the option of tent-camping in our field. **

** Riverbend does not provide food or camping equipment
